Wage: $12.00/Hour

Audience Services is the front face of all that we do in our theater. Comprised of Patron Services, Front of House, and Concessions, Audience Services handles all aspects of audience interaction and stands as the primary point of contact for patrons and guests.  The Cross-Department Audience Services Associate is a flexible worker, responsible for assisting all three sections of Audience Services as needed.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Patron Services
    • Provide outstanding customer service to create a great patron experience
    • Work will-call window prior to performances
    • Conduct ticket sales, exchanges and other transactions 
    • Process payments, accepting cash, check or credit card; ensure control of monies received at all times
    • Answer patrons’ questions concerning theater programs, schedules, directions, etc.
    • Resolve patron concerns; clarify the complaint, determine the cause, and select and explain the best solution; expedite correction or adjustment
    • Perform other related duties as assigned

  • Front of House
    • Tidy the theater and the lobby before/after performances
    • Remove, restore, and/or rearrange lobby furniture
    • Greet patrons as they arrive; escort patrons to their seat
    • Answer patron questions regarding events, the theater, and the organization
    • Distribute standard and large print programs
    • Assist Front of House Manager in resolving seating difficulties
    • Check-in/out assistive listening devices (ALDs) and assist people with disabilities
    • Monitor patrons during performances and address issues of audience behavior, safety, and comfort as they arise
    • Sell merchandise at select performances
    • Participate in emergency evacuation of the theater, when necessary
  • Concessions
    • Set up and cleanup of all concession equipment and work areas
    • Use of  POS for all food and beverage purchases including processing transactions involving cash, credit card, or Apple Pay
    • Drink and food service, and occasional dish washing
    • Compliance with all California laws regarding the sale and service of alcoholic beverages
    • Other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Two years customer service experience required
  • General knowledge of theaters and the performing arts (preferred)
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the general public
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Ability to communicate well and follow instructions both orally and in writing
    • Ability to problem solve and trouble shoot
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work well under pressure
    • Ability to deal discretely and sensitively with disruptive or dissatisfied patrons
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Evening and weekend availability required, typically starting at 4pm

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
  • Ability to be on ones feet for several hours including walking, standing, bending, lifting, and carrying
  • Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs
  • Should be comfortable navigating a dim theater with the assistance of a flash light
  • May have to climb one or more flights of stairs, as well as move about on the upper levels of the balcony during some shift
    • Upper balconies require comfort at highest points of theater. Because we need to ensure adequate coverage of balcony shifts, we will need to know if this is a limitation for you.
