Over 100 people joined the Honorable CA State Senator Curren D. Price at Culver City's Museum of Design, Art and Architecture on the morning for February 26th for an Informational Hearing of the Joint Legislative Committee on Arts.  The subject: The Creative Economy as a Jobs Engine in California.  CA State Senator Roy Ashburn (18th District) noted it was fitting that a gathering on arts & culture was "standing room only."      » Continued

I have come before you to speak about my former school, Short Avenue Elementary School in Local District 3/Board District 4, and the impact that a wonderful and effective Arts program is having on the community, students, enrollment, and academic achievement.  At the same time I want to emphasize that, to borrow a phrase,  "The Arts Are NOT Elective!" and that what is happening at Short Avenue School must happen at ALL schools.      » Continued

Report-Out: Legislative Briefing, 12/2/09

CAA Legislative Briefing

California Arts Advocates in partnership with Arts for LA, LA Stage Alliance, California Alliance for Arts Education and the Los Angeles County Arts Commission presented a legislative briefing reporting on current arts-related legislation at the state level. 

Hosted by the Actors' Gang, the briefing featured lobbyist Kathy Lynch, who works for both California Arts Advocates and California Alliance for Arts Education.  Lynch spent an hour updating the group of arts advocates on issues such as AB 700, the arts education block grants and the new water bonds.  Terence McFarland moderated and led the Q&A after Lynch's overview.

Report-Out: Emerging Arts Leaders LA's Creative Connections 2009

Emerging Arts Leaders Los Angeles presented Leveraging Networks, a daylong convening at Long Beach's Expo Building on October 17th, 2009.  The event was one of many happening nationally during Arts and Humanities Month through Emerging Arts Leaders' Creative Conversations

Hosted by Arts Council for Long Beach, Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association, The Creativity Network and The Connected Corridor/Leadership Long Beach, Leveraging Networks brought together over 50 self-defined "Emerging Arts Leaders" from across LA County.
