Position: Bookstore Coordinator

Position Type: Employee

Pay Rate: $12-$15, depending on experience

Location: Sylmar, CA.

Work Week: Part Time, 20 hours per week (weekdays and some weekends)
Language: Bilingual Preferred - English/Spanish 
Immediate Supervisor: Interim Executive Director

Job Summary: Bookstore Coordinator needed for non-profit bookstore/cultural center in Sylmar. The Bookstore Coordinator will serve as a lead in both managerial and customer service capacities.  As a manager, the Coordinator will develop and execute the strategic direction of the bookstore, including advancing a current effort to re-envision and revise the functionality of the bookstore. This transition will incorporate an added emphasis on creating additional revenue opportunities beyond the physical bookstore location.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversight of all bookstore operations
  • Maintain, improve and document our business practices
  • Ring up sales/Returns
  • Ensure desired bookstore presentation, orderliness and cleanliness
  • Courteous customer service
  • Perform clerical duties required by position
  • Order, stock and maintain accuracy of inventory
  • Process, ship and receive orders
  • Work collaboratively with staff to organize logistics for off-site book sales opportunities
  • Execute end of year inventory
  • Occasionally create and send social media content as well as email newsletters
  • Outreach as needed 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Communicates effectively both in writing and verbally  
  • Consistent and effective organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to collaborate cooperatively with staff, facilitators and volunteers
  • Ability to maintain professional work and attitude with potential collaborators and business contacts
  • Knowledge and experience with Point of Sale (POS) systems and/or QuickBooks
  • Two years experience in retail and/or shipping/receiving environment, preferably recent; Previous bookstore experience a plus
  • Knowledge of and interest in meeting this community's literacy needs
  • Experience working with community oriented organizations and activities
  • Proactive and able to handle multiple priorities and deadlines efficiently
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish
  • Excellent research and computer technology skills
