City: West Hollywood
Position Seeking: City Council

Question 1: Please share a meaningful experience you had with art (visual, dance, drama, music, media arts) while growing up and its impact on you.

Growing up I participated in school plays and musical theatre. I was your typical drama kid. I felt so much serenity through the arts as it allowed me to express myself. It challenged me to grow and connect with others. It was my healthy extra curricular activity that gave me a sense of belonging. The arts influenced my life growing up so much that I chose pursue a creative career in producing.

Question 2: What do you believe the role of City Council should be in developing and supporting the region’s arts and cultural infrastructure?

The arts and cultural infrastructure should be supported by the City Council. It is important to embrace creative and innovative thinking in our City, and to do so the arts need to a part of it. We are a city of creative artists and the City Council needs to support their residents.

In addition, to expand art infrastructure the City Council must look at ways of expanding the Urban Art Program. 1% for Art Ordinance is very little. In order to continue growth, the City Council should look into ways of increasing this percentage.

Question 3: What’s your vision for the city? What role, if any, does art and culture play in advancing that vision?

My vision for the City of West Hollywood is to create a safe place for residents to express themselves, afford housing, and smart development. Art and culture play into development. The city needs development with art included. Otherwise we become any other city with random buildings. Also, we must create a safe place for residents to express themselves. This support reaches anything from Outfest screenings to Pride events. If elected, I will work toward creating a city by deepening the culture for the arts.

Questions 4: A recent report by the Otis College of Design found that 1 in every 6 jobs in LA County supports the creative sector and economy in Los Angeles County. If elected, how will you aim to ensure the continued vitality and growth of the creative economy and the artistic community that it supports?

If elected I will work with the Arts & Cultural Affairs Commission. I will continue to support the positive growth of arts in West Hollywood. Together we must continue to support our artistic organizations and special events. I look to continue growth of the creative economy and art community.
