AB 580, the California State Assembly bill to fund the California Arts Council with $75 million for the upcoming fiscal year, failed to pass out of the Assembly Appropriations Committee during the current legislative session.

Last week, Los Angeles's City Council adopted the Mayor's proposed budget after extensive budget committee hearings with department heads to better understand the implications of the Mayor's funding proposals.  As previously reported, the budget included an incremental increase in funding to the Department of Cultural Affairs, the City of Los Angeles's primary grantor for arts and cult

The good news is voter turnout increased over March's Primary Election in Los Angeles, but the real news is voter turnout didn't rise much above the historic low in the nation's second largest city.

The Los Angeles City Council moved one step closer to passing an official resolution in support of AB 580, the California Assembly bill that would fund the California Arts Council with $75 million dollars for the next fiscal year.

On Wednesday, Arts for LA sent a statement to Councilmember Paul Krekorian expressing support for Mayor Villaraigosa's proposed budget for the next fiscal year, which runs July 1, 2013, through June 30, 2014.  Krekorian serves as chairman on the Budget and Finance Committee of the Los Angeles City Council and will oversee the process of soliciting comment and providing feedback on the budget before the City Council vot
