City: Los Angeles
Position Seeking: City Council – District 7

Question 1: Please share a meaningful experience you had with art (visual, dance, drama, music, media arts) while growing up and its impact on you.

I have painted from time to time and participated in musicals, written stories and I love arts and consider that I am an artist. Meaningful in this is that, as part of my campaign, I’ve constructed a Community Guide for District 7 that focuses on Sports, Arts and Fun. The Guide itself is a creation that I consider Art and it is an expression of my goals for the office and my spirit. As part of this I’ve visited every one of the 50 Murals on the Van Nuys Mural Mile through Pacoima and Arleta, taken and put pictures of these in my Guide. I’ve discovered as part of the Pacoima Singers, a Musical Theatre award winning choir from Pacoima Middle School “Television, Theatre & Performing Arts” Magnet. These guys are amazing! I want to support them and get programs like this into all of District 7 schools.

Question 2: What do you believe the role of City Council should be in developing and supporting the region’s arts and cultural infrastructure?

I think that art is magical and aesthetics supersedes effort when it comes to getting things done and making a community safe and happy. My goal as City Council Member for District 7 is to help to make LA the best city in the world. One of my plans is to ensure we fortify and partner with those getting the LA Revitalization projects executed to do whatever we can to help move this along, so that all of these large cement waterways are reconstructed to be green, promote aviary, flora and fauna to populate them and increase the overall aesthetics of this vast array of open spaces that can become a true work of art for miles, I feel each of our cities schools should get their fair share of lottery money to help them with the supplies and good teachers they need to inspire this form of creativity.

Question 3: What’s your vision for the city? What role, if any, does art and culture play in advancing that vision?

My vision for the city to make it the best city in the world Homelessness and Affordable Housing go hand in glove and both desperately need immediate remedy to be able to accomplish this I would like to get that going strong and outlaw skid row and homeless encampments on city sidewalks underpasses and city or others real property Giving real solutions to this will make this doable and make our streets more sanitary We really do need to realize how history repeats itself and reasonableness when it comes to hazmat style encampments that cost many thousands to clean out while those who were in them just move across the street is unacceptable Human feces can cause great health risks for all I want to encourage investors with EZ approval models of boarding homes along transport corridors for one Also encourage in many ways to make a hassle free pathway for homeowners to make a second or third living unit on their land using their money Tiny home lots could and should be approved along an EZ approval line in certain regions close to the transportation corridors In addition I would like to sponsor a peer review committee that pulls in people from the District Developers Planning and Neighborhood Council to review the codes ordinances zoning laws and other practices of the administration against the US and California Constitutions Art and culture play a large role.

Questions 4: A recent report by the Otis College of Design found that 1 in every 6 jobs in LA County supports the creative sector and economy in Los Angeles County. If elected, how will you aim to ensure the continued vitality and growth of the creative economy and the artistic community that it supports?

I will monitor the lottery dole and ensure that it is uniformly and proportionately allocated to the various schools and inspect those in my district to ensure they have good art programs, including in grade and middle schools. I personally plan to sponsor murals and if City Council Member I will announce annual mural contests not only for the mural mile, but for the entire district and support them as much as I can.
