Education Programs Associate
To work approximately 16 hours/week for 10 months in grants-funded position with a start date in early 2016. Under the supervision of the Education Manager, the Education Programs Associate will help coordinate and facilitate the Fowler Museum's educational programs, including but not limited to family programs, school programs, teacher workshops and gallery visits. The Education Programs Associate also leads group tours as needed and will play a crucial role in planning a new initiative called School Muse, a behind-the-scenes learning opportunity that immerses students and teachers in the collaborative and interdisciplinary environment of the museum.
The Fowler's educational programs include: K-12 guided and self-guided visits to the Fowler that occur on weekday mornings, weekend art-making workshops and performances for families, college and adult tours, teacher workshops, as well as multi visit school partnerships. Many of our programs are co-facilitated by student educators who are trained in inquiry-driven object-based teaching strategies.
The Education Associate provides logistical, administrative, and research support to the education team. This includes but is not limited to: Student and adult tour scheduling, expense processing, tracking attendance, issuing contracts, arranging buses, and promoting programs.
Other tasks include assisting with administrative aspects of the student educator program, school and family programs, school visit logistics, outreach to schools, bus transportation, managing multiple calendars, and event planning. The Fowler Museum at UCLA explores global arts and cultures with an emphasis on works from Africa, Asia, the Pacific, and the Americas—past and present. The Fowler enhances understanding and appreciation of the diverse peoples, cultures, and religions of the world through dynamic exhibitions, publications, and public programs, informed by interdisciplinary approaches and the perspectives of the cultures represented. Also featured is the work of international contemporary artists presented within the complex frameworks of politics, culture and social action. The Fowler provides exciting, informative and thought-provoking exhibitions and events for the UCLA community and the people of greater Los Angeles and beyond. The Fowler Museum is part of UCLA's School of the Arts and Architecture.
Skills, Qualifications, Requirements:
- -Weekday morning availability on Tuesday-Friday from 9:30-1:00, and weekend availability some Sundays, 11:00-4:30
- -Highly organized with great attention to detail
- -Professional self starter and problem solver
- -Has a passion for global arts and education
- -Teaching experience required, experience teaching visual arts in museum contexts preferred
- -Interest in working in highly collaborative, fast paced environment
- -BA degree in arts, education, community arts, or relevant field of study
- -Spanish/English bilingual skills preferred
- -Interest in the potential for arts education to affect social and communal change
