Arts Education Community Organizer Arts for LA


Arts for LA is seeking a dynamic individual with demonstrated community organizing experience to join our team. Below is the full description and instructions on how to apply.  Please read carefully before submitting. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing a process and plan for building and strengthening all components for community arts education advocacy teams to support arts education in public schools, including:

  • Develop an arts education advocacy training program, including all advocacy training materials
  • Create levels-of-readiness criteria to determine five pilot Arts for All communities that will participate in the training program
  • Coordinate and support the creation of community advocacy teams in the five pilot Arts for All communities
  • Direct and implement the training program with the five pilot Arts for All community advocacy teams
  • Support the five pilot Arts for All community advocacy teams in planning and organizing presentations for school board meetings
  • Support the five pilot Arts for All community advocacy teams in providing school board candidates with the latest arts education information through the development of Arts Education Briefing Kits
  • Evaluate the impact of the community advocacy training program
  • Make recommendations on how to strengthen the community advocacy program for the future
Additionally, the Arts Education Community Organizer will track all upcoming 2009-2010 school board elections in Arts for All school districts as well as the Los Angeles Unified School District, survey candidates on their commitment to arts education, and disseminate surveying findings to the public to facilitate informed decision making.

The position requires the ability to multi-task, be very organized, conduct community outreach, convene community meetings, and coordinate and perform relevant training. This motivated person will act as representative between Arts for LA, Arts for All, and a variety of state, and local committees and organizations. Additional Qualifications:
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, sociology, communications, arts administration, or related field; successful candidate must be able to communicate with all sectors/levels of diverse communities; bi-lingual English/Spanish; good presentation skills; a minimum of four years community organizing experience preferred; knowledge of Los Angeles arts communities, arts organizations, and arts education a plus.
