DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE

Venice Arts seeks a full-time Development and Communications Associate to work under the general supervision of the Associate Director. A member of the Dev/Comm Team, the Associate’s roles and responsibilities include:

1. Marketing Communications: Under the day-to-day direction of the Associate Director:

  • Calendar and implement the marketing and communications plan, including online (website stories, eNews), social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter), and traditional media (press releases)
  • Archive all print and electronic press clippings, posting to the appropriate section(s) of the website
  • Manage all media contacts in the database, assuring that they remain current
  • Send press releases/press packets to media outlets, including drafting releases, when requested
  • Assure that promotional materials, youth art features, guest books, and related are stocked and available to the public; calendar and implement timely replacement of exterior signage and brochures
  • Draft quarterly communications reporting following the proscribed protocol

2. Development: Grants Under the day-to-day direction of the Grants Manager:

  • Assist with grants research, including adding new prospects to the grants database
  • Draft (to near-final), at minimum, 2 Letters of Inquiry monthly
  • Draft an average of 2 reports to funders, monthly
  • Maintain/update grant attachments and related, collateral materials; assist with packaging grants

3. Development: Other Under the day-to-day direction of the Development Director: 

  • Calendar and implement annual campaigns, including online/social media and direct mail components
  • Pull mailing lists, coordinating print and mail house activities, and maintaining outcome data.
  • Send donor acknowledgement letters and other development correspondence as requested
  • Maintain and regularly update all data relative to individual, major, and corporate donor prospecting and outreach, in FMP or Excel, as appropriate; maintain Board stewarding spreadsheet
  • Generate reports in FMP, Excel, CDP or other, as directed, to support analysis of development efforts
  • Provide support for fundraising events and maintain all data related to such events

Qualifications: The ideal candidate is a graduate of a nonprofit management, fund development, and/or marketing/communications program; prior, entry-level experience in development and/or communications preferred. Must be an excellent writer, articulate, extremely well-organized and detail oriented, with the ability to manage and meet multiple deadlines at the direction of multiple staff. Must be extremely comfortable capturing and entering data, as well as querying a database to generate reports. Must be highly proficient with Excel, with a demonstrated ability to generate reports and graphs; familiarity with FilemakerPro a plus. A strong design sensibility and ability to work with Adobe Suite software preferred, but not required. Must have a flexible schedule, as occasional evening and weekend hours will be required. Must demonstrate an ability to draft donor documents, such as LOIs, reports, and other correspondence, in a timely manner. Must demonstrate a basic understanding of communications and the ability to execute multi-platform campaigns in an efficient manner. 

Salary and Benefits: This full-time, non-exempt position starts at $18 per hour; vacation and sick time accrues after completion of an initial, 90-day period. This position offers an excellent opportunity for growth and development for candidates interested in development and/or communications.
