Invertigo Dance Theatre is accepting applications for an interim Managing Director to help with the organization’s operations and programming while the Executive Director is on leave. This temporary position will start in early March 2015 and will conclude in late
July 2015.

Primary responsibilities of the Managing Director (MD) will be: fund raising; operations & financial management; and marketing & audience development. The culture of Invertigo is very collaborative and we hope to find an MD that will be an enthusiastic member of our team and open to helping with whatever projects or tasks arise.

The MD will work closely with the Artistic Director and Company Manager at Invertigo’s office in Culver City. The MD will also interact regularly with other staff members, board members, teaching artists, dancers, volunteers, interns and community partners. Office hours will generally be weekdays, with special events and performances likely to occur on evenings and weekends. Some local travel will be required.

Specific projects and responsibilities anticipated:

Development

  • Lead the summer annual fund campaign, including: creation and production of direct

    mail, email, social media and phone calls; working with board members on personalized approaches; tracking and reporting results; and recruiting and managing volunteers to help with gift entry and acknowledgment.

  • Lead institutional giving efforts, including: grant research, writing and reporting; finding and pursuing opportunities for corporate sponsorship; and ensuring compliance with government grants.

  • Lead event planning for donor or fund-raising events; recruit and manage event volunteers; and utilize support from board members.

  • Support board members in making connections with prospective funders.

    Performances & Programming

  • Work closely with Artistic Director and Company Manager on performance and

    programming production, including: reading and negotiating contracts; providing information to venues or vendors; paying artists, independent contractors, and vendors; creating, sending, and tracking invoices; and arranging and attending meetings.

  • In conjunction with presenters or co-presenters, manage box office logistics and revenues, and merchandise and concession sales at performances, as needed.

  • Work closely with Artistic Director to market performances and programs, including: creating strategies to reach target audiences; designing and printing brochures, fliers, and programs; purchasing ads in other performance programs; email, social media and website updates; and writing and distributing press releases.

• Work closely with all staff, teaching artists and volunteers involved in the Invert/ED youth education program and Dancing Through Parkinson’s. Growth and new partnerships are planned for both of these community programs in 2015.

Financial Management & Board Engagement

  • Utilize QuickBooks and PatronManager to track expenses and revenue, relative to

    annual budgetary goals.

  • Communicate with CFO and board about financial matters and create reports to reflect

    organization and program budgets.

  • Participate in collaborative discussions with staff and board regarding any financial

    decisions or issues that arise.

  • Start preliminary planning and groundwork for creating a new strategic plan, including

    potential management of pro bono consultants or graduate students.

    We do not have a specific list of qualifications and experience that are required. However, the strongest candidates will be able to provide evidence that they can successfully take on the projects and responsibilities listed above.

    We anticipate the timeline to look approximately as follows, and will adjust when possible:

  • March 1-15, 2015: Part-time training with Executive Director (hours TBD)

  • March 16-June 30, 2015: Full-time engagement as Managing Director

  • July 1-31, 2015: Part-time engagement as Managing Director, as Executive Director

    transitions back in (hours TBD)
