Arts for All -- Teacher Arts Liaison -- Job Description

Research strongly supports the belief that it is important to promote and sustain academic and career success for ALL students through increased and equitable access to a complete curriculum that includes high-quality arts education. To further this belief, the Arts Liaison will:

1) Attend one meeting with the district’s Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator, Tom Whaley, to learn about the district’s 9-year strategic “Arts for All” plan to increase equity and access to high quality arts education for ALL students.

2) Attend four Arts For All meetings each year (at the district headquarters) to learn about other model arts programs in the district as well as report what high quality arts learning is taking place at their own site.

3) Advocate for high-quality arts education programs and raise awareness about the relevance of the arts in increasing academic achievement and building a vibrant, productive society.

4) Collaborate effectively with parents, teachers, administrators and the community to build support and sustain ongoing arts instruction for all children at your site. This can be accomplished by attending PTA meetings, discussing arts education at staff meetings, and scheduling regular meetings with site administration.

5) Understand key components of a fully developed, standards-based arts program.

6) Seek opportunities to share best practices.

7) Understand how the arts can be integrated into and reinforce a rigorous curriculum.

8) Understand and articulate the goals and benefits of a comprehensive arts education.

9) Promote media attention and build school district awareness of the importance of encouraging children to participate in the arts.

10) Seek partnerships with professional arts organizations in the community to better coordinate arts education programs and cultural enrichment services.

11) Speak at staff and district meetings about the importance of arts education and advocacy.
