June 13th: 2pm-5:30pm

Please email nia@heididuckler.org if you have any interest in volunteering
Program Description: A small, kimono-clad woman pushes a gigantic brush around a gallery floor-sized canvas, beautiful calligraphy materializes in her wake. Around her, hip-hop dancers break, pop, lock and krump their way around the floor, led by the visual language of the calligraphy and meeting it with their physical expression—all to the percussive melodies of Jodie Landau’s vibraphone. In June, Duckler’s dancers will be joined by Isa Hirano, Japan’s top calligrapher to perform Brush Up in Glendale’s Brand Library & Art Center.

Volunteer Role & Responsibilities: Volunteers can choose to volunteer for one performance or both. Volunteer duties would include production support, setting up the performance space, handling programs, striking/clearing the space after the performances, setting up lights and sound (depending on skill), guiding the audience (our performances are interactive), and setting up the reception. All volunteer duties will be based on physical ability.

Time Commitment: We ask that volunteers commit at least 3 hours.

Requirements: No special requirements. It is a plus if you have volunteered for performing or visual arts events. Dress code is casual and comfortable. Volunteers may be standing for a period of time. Finally, volunteers will arrive an hour before show time at to receive training.

Benefits: The volunteers receive the opportunity to view the performance for free. Volunteers participating in the opportunity will remain connected to Heidi Ducker Dance Theatre and receive invitations to all future events and performances. Volunteers will also gain experience working with a cutting edge performing arts organization that focuses on community and audience engagement as well as site-specific dance.
