Emerging Arts Leaders/LA (EAL/LA) is a network of arts advocates formed to support and cultivate the next generation of creative leaders in Los Angeles County by providing them with opportunities to expand their peer network, share resources, and improve their job-related skills through professional development.
EAL/LA members are in their early career (generally under 35 and/or with less than five years experience in arts management*) and share a desire to enhance their leadership capacity by developing innovative, effective, and responsible management practices. They represent organizations from all arts disciplines, in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors, and include artists, administrative coordinators, managers, and directors, arts funders, patrons, and consultants.
The Network is an important point of intersection for work already being done in LA County to encourage and engage the next generation of arts leaders. Between the partnership of The Getty Foundation and the Los Angeles County Arts Commission in introducing undergraduate students to careers in arts administration, and the leadership development programs offered by these institutions to executive and artistic directors, EAL/LA provides a critical development area for the next generation to explore its role in the cultural community of Los Angeles.
EAL/LA is a local chapter of the national Emerging Leaders Council initiated in 1999 by Americans for the Arts (www.artsusa.org), the nations leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts in America.

* The term is not exclusive and welcomes all who feel they are still emerging in the field.
