National Voter Registration Day logoArts for LA, as part of its commitment to increasing civic engagement outlined in the Arts & Culture Policy Framework for Los Angeles County (PDF), is proud to participate in National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, September 25, 2012—a month prior to the October 22 voter registration deadline in California.

Joining a coalition of nonprofits, volunteers, and celebrities from around the country, Arts for LA will help coordinate and promote voter registration activities occurring in Los Angeles County before, on, and after National Voter Registration Day. Local partners in the effort include the California Participation Project, Voto Latino, NALEO, Alliance for Justice and the Los Angeles League of Women Voters.

According to the National Voter Registration Day website, “In 2008, six million Americans didn't vote because they missed a registration deadline or didn’t know how to register. In 2012, we want to make sure no one is left out." National Voter Registration Day partners seek to identify and mobilize volunteers to register tens of thousands of voters at transportation hubs, commercial centers, nonprofits, festivals and other events. As part of the effort, partners also seek to educate eligible voters and change the conversation away from our differences to celebrate the rights that unite us as Americans.
