Arts for All logoOn June 10, 2012, Arts for All will commemorate ten years of work connecting school districts to arts education resources by hosting a celebration at the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena.

In 2001, a study called Arts in Focus provided the first insights into the state of arts education for students in Los Angeles County’s eighty school districts. The report’s key findings revealed that while arts education was considered a valuable and important component of educational development, most schools and districts lacked the policies, funding, and infrastructure to make consistent arts education a reality.

In response to the findings, the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and the Los Angeles County Office of Education partnered to convene an advisory group of twenty regional arts education leaders to draft a comprehensive plan, called the Regional Blueprint for Arts Education, to reinvigorate arts education programs countywide.  Arts for All was established in 2002 when the County Board of Supervisors approved and adopted the Arts for All Regional Blueprint for Arts Education.

Since then, Arts for All has collaborated with forty-eight of the County’s eighty-one school districts, reaching over half a million students.  Their work in each district includes achieving goals that foster a firm foundation for arts education:

  • Adoption of a school board-level arts education policy and plan
  • Creation of a district-level arts coordinator,
  • Allocation of funding for arts education from the general budget
  • Limitation of a student-to-credentialed art teacher ratio of no more than 400 to one.

In 2010, Arts for All introduced “Quality, Equity, and Access Indicators” to define what high quality arts education means for Los Angeles County.  School program quality is measured using a specific data collection tool; the results are then compared to the established indicators.

Arts for All continues to be a collaborative effort among county agencies, public officials, businesses, community stakeholders, and school districts.

The staff and leadership of Arts for All invite you to commemorate our 10th Anniversary on June 12, 2012, from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m, at the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served. Arts for All asks you to RSVP at http://artsforall10thanniversary.eventbrite.com/
