Advocacy Team (if applicable):

CA 33Congressmember Karen Bass (CA-33, Hollywood) is hosting a forum on education reform on Wednesday, September 28th, 2011.  Rep. Bass will be joined by special guest Russlyn Ali, Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education.  Arts for LA encourages advocates to attend and, if possible, speak to the importance of arts education and its place as core curriculum.  For tips on speaking to policymakers and arts education talking points, please see our Resource Section

From Rep. Bass' press release:

In 2009, President Barack Obama announced one of the largest investments in public education in our country’s history in a 5-tier plan to overhaul the way we fund and evaluate educational success. But have our schools improved? What does success look like? How have state budget crises impacted the progress of school reform?
Learn more about the President’s plans and share your opinions and concerns about how we achieve quality education for California children.
