Three LA County Elections Advance to November Run-Offs

VOTE by Theresa Thompson, on FlickrFormer California State Senator Sheila Kuehl and former Santa Monica Mayor Bobby Shiver are still in the race to be the Los Angeles County Supervisor of District 3. Kuehl received a total of 43,348 votes, accounting for 36.18% of the votes cast. Shiver came in second with 34,509 votes with (28.80%). The results indicate they will face a run off on the November ballot.

The city of Glendale will also hold a run off between Paula Devine and Vartan Gharpetian for the open seat on the Glendale City Council. Devine led with 33.69% of the votes, while Gharpetian came in second with 22%. 

George McKenna and Alex Johnson are in the lead for the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education special election to replace District 1 representative Marguerite LaMotte. McKenna received 44.28% with a total of 15,442 votes and Johnson obtained 24.67% with 8,605 votes. 

With 4,870 precincts reporting, the percentage of the total countywide voter turnout was only 13.1%.  This is one of the lowest voter turnout rates in the history of Los Angeles County voting. 

National Voter Registration Day is September 24, 2014. The  deadline to register to vote in the November election in the State of California October 17, 2014. New registrations or updates can be processed online at http://registertovote.ca.gov.
