MÉXTASIS PRESENTS ITS OPEN CALL & EXHIBITION FOR BUSHWICK OPEN STUDIOS 2018

Following a successful first edition in 2016, Méxtasis presents its second iteration, establishing itself as a two-yearly open call & exhibition for the promotion of contemporary art relating to Mexico.

OPENING: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 7PM - 10PM

ON VIEW: SEPTEMBER 29 & 3012PM - 9PM

VENUE: #OLIVIEPONCE SPACE, 10 Cypress Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11237

Méxtasis is pleased to present its second Open Call & Exhibition for artists from Mexico and of Mexican descent, to be presented as part of BOS Bushwick Open Studios 2018.

The project fosters multiple perspectives on the cultural and artistic practices connected to Mexico and responds to the international image of a country that has been manipulated by a spectrum of political and media agendas—with its cultures and histories often fading in the background of partisan rhetoric. Méxtasis wants to testify to the artistic and cultural ecstasies of México.

Triggered by the positive response from artists and the public alike to the first edition, presented in 2016 under the title Mèxtasis - Primer Capítulo: Se Habla Arte Mexicano, the project returns as a biennial open call and exhibition led in 2018 by an international jury of art professionals:

Barbara Calderón: writer for Remezcla, founding member of Colectiva Cósmica, arts organizer, New York

Ilaria Conti: Research Curator, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris

Diego Del Valle Ríos: independent curator and Editor of Terremoto Magazine, Mexico City

María García Sainz Creel: Communications at Galería Hilario Galguera & El cuarto de Máquinas, Mexico City

Olivié Ponce: artist and founder of Mèxtasis, New York

The Call is open until Friday, August 10 at 11.59 pm EST to artists of Mexican nationality, regardless of their country of residence. The artists selected will be announced on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 and will be invited to present their artworks in a dedicated exhibition at the Mèxtasis project space.
