The Autry is dedicated to exploring and sharing the stories, experiences, and perceptions of the diverse peoples of the American West. Through the work of its dynamic staff, the Autry promotes education, research, exhibitions, and public programs. Located in scenic Griffith Park, the Autry provides a collaborative work environment for its employees and attracts highly qualified and motivated professionals.

The Autry seeks a Project Cataloger to assist in preparing the Autry Library for a collections move.  This is a part-time, temporary position, 24 hours / week for 12 months with duties primarily at the Autry Library on the Griffith Park campus. Under the direction of the Senior Cataloging and Metadata Librarian, the Project Cataloger for Autry Library Move has primary responsibility for cataloging book, serial, and map collections at the Autry Library in preparation for a collections move.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • ·         Provides complex copy cataloging of published and unpublished materials in the Autry Library Collections, including serials, books, maps, and ephemera, according to national and local cataloging standards;
  • ·         Performs reconciliation of existing records in library catalog and OCLC WorldCat as needed;
  • ·         Performs other duties as assigned

OTHER FUNCTIONS

The museum (or the Autry) reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications: Required

  • ·         MLIS degree from an ALA accredited institution, or enrollment in accredited MLIS program;
  • ·         Experience in a special, research, or academic library;
  • ·         Familiarity with MARC21;
  • ·         Demonstrated attention to detail;
  • ·         Must pass a background check prior to appointment

Qualifications: Preferred

  • ·         Experience using OCLC Connexion Client;
  • ·         Experience using OCLC WorldCat Discovery
  • ·         Experience applying AACR2 and a knowledge of RDA;
  • ·         Understanding of current preservation and conservation standards;
  • ·         Experience with a collections or library move;
  • ·         Experience working with special collections and archives;
  • ·         Experience with integrated library systems (Innovative Interfaces Millennium preferred);
  • ·         Experience with collections data management systems (MIMSY XG preferred);
  • ·         Experience with archival data management systems (ArchivistSpace preferred);
  • ·         Ability to work both independently and collaboratively;
  • ·         Demonstrated effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills;
  • ·         Ability to quickly learn new software without extensive training;
  • ·         Flexibility and willingness to embrace change; 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • ·         Must be able to lift 20 lbs. and push a loaded library cart weighing up to 50 lbs.;
  • ·         Must be able to work in a temperature controlled collections environment;
  • ·         Must be able to perform climb stairs, book-shifting, involving bending, stooping, and carrying;
  • ·         Must be able to perform repetitive movements associated with keyboarding;
  • ·         Must be able to work with rare materials in a variety of conservation conditions
