City: Burbank
Position Seeking: City Council

Question 1: Please share a meaningful experience you had with art (visual, dance, drama, music, media arts) while growing up and its impact on you.

I grew up sewing and even designing my own clothes. As an adult, I designed home textile products and was awarded five patents and successfully, and profitably developed the products I designed.

As a child and teenager I often entertained myself with textile, needlework, rope and other design projects.

Question 2: What do you believe the role of City Council should be in developing and supporting the region’s arts and cultural infrastructure?

I think it should contribute financially through our city budget and proactively seek grants to fund various projects. I think there’s lots of opportunity in inter-generational art collaborations and funding we should pursue. Intergenerational projects would engage more of our seniors and mentor our youth,

Question 3: What’s your vision for the city? What role, if any, does art and culture play in advancing that vision?

I envision an environmentally, socially and economically sustainable city with the entertainment industry continuing to play a significant role in our economy. Art and culture are huge components, and training must play an important role in guiding our students and adults in their career paths. They must have training opportunities to fully allow them to participate in our robust job base.

Questions 4: A recent report by the Otis College of Design found that 1 in every 6 jobs in LA County supports the creative sector and economy in Los Angeles County. If elected, how will you aim to ensure the continued vitality and growth of the creative economy and the artistic community that it supports?

I will proactively seek grants to pursue projects that are important to Burbank. As I said earlier, I believe there are intergenerational arts projects to pursue. Seniors and our youth could learn from each other and keep both groups engaged in a safe way. I support job development and training in the arts.
