Congress Allocates $146M to Support Arts & Culture Nationwide

Photo: US CapitolOn Tuesday night, Congress released the details of its massive FY 2014 Omnibus spending bill. A petition circulated by the Arts Action Fund, signed by more than 40,000 arts advocates, reinforced the need to allocate a robust fund to the National Endowment for the Arts. The agency has been budgeted to receive $146 million for the year.

The National Endowment for the Arts recently released a study describing the impact of arts education on at-risk students.  According to the report, arts involvement contributes to an overall improvement life circumstances for at-risk youth, encouraging them to achieve academically, remain engaged in their community and pursue professional careers after college.

AFTA Action FundAmericans for the Arts has reported that the FY 2013 budget released by the Obama Administration includes several increases in funding for federal arts and cultural agencies, including $8 million increases for the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities. This would bring their total annual budgets to $154 million each.
