City: Cerritos
Position Seeking: City Council

Question 1: Please share a meaningful experience you had with art (visual, dance, drama, music, media arts) while growing up and its impact on you.

As a high school student I was fortunate to have been a member of my high school chorus. I met great friends and attended many events and performed at many venues. It was a great balance between school and sports. From that experience I went onto UCLA where I wanted to test myself by auditioning for a spot on the UCLA Choir. Surprisingly I made the group and performed with the group for one quarter. Unfortunately, due to the demands of school I had to focus on my academics, however it was one of my favorite experiences in high school and college.

Question 2: What do you believe the role of City Council should be in developing and supporting the region’s arts and cultural infrastructure?

Cerritos is a city that gives value to the arts. We have a performing arts center, we have arts in public places program and we also have a sculpture garden at city hall. I strongly believe that we should support the arts program to maintain a well balance city for our residents and businesses. The arts programs bring creativity and value to our city. City Council should also place a value in the arts and should make it assessable to our residents.

Question 3: What’s your vision for the city? What role, if any, does art and culture play in advancing that vision?

My Vision for the city is to have our residents feel safe and secure in their own home, at play in our local parks and out shopping at our local businesses. I believe a city should be assessable to our stake holders and a city that listens to our residents and allow for our residents to have an influence on our decisions. I believe in a city that adds value to our residents and visitors. I know by having an art and culture program will enhance our vision and give our residents and visitor a reason to live and visit our city.

Questions 4: A recent report by the Otis College of Design found that 1 in every 6 jobs in LA County supports the creative sector and economy in Los Angeles County. If elected, how will you aim to ensure the continued vitality and growth of the creative economy and the artistic community that it supports?

I will work with all our stakeholders to maintain a high quality of life for residents, business partners and visitors. I will be open to ideas and listen to the members of our community. If elected I will always have an open door policy to work with the artistic community.
