Position Seeking: City Council
Question 1: Please share a meaningful experience you had with art (visual, dance, drama, music, media arts) while growing up and its impact on you.
When I was a little girl I was invited by a neighbor’s daughter to see a movie at Grauman’s Chinese theatre; the movie was How the West Was Won. I will never forget the red velvet seats and the ornate gold colored wood. The theatre itself was beautiful and left me in awe. Just when I thought I had died and gone to heaven the movie started. This huge screen seemed to completely surround me when it lit up and I held my breath as the room filled with music and sound. When Debbie Reynolds was fighting the river rapids I felt as though I was on the raft with her, when the soldiers bled and died I cried and cried. I will never forget that day.
Question 2: What do you believe the role of City Council should be in developing and supporting the region’s arts and cultural infrastructure?
I believe we should provide facilities and support whenever possible.
Question 3: What’s your vision for the city? What role, if any, does art and culture play in advancing that vision?
That residents have as much access as possible to everything that enlightens, stimulates, and motivates them to be all they can be.
Art and culture provide opportunities to grow as a person, learn tolerance and acceptance for one another, and to imagine what’s possible.
Questions 4: A recent report by the Otis College of Design found that 1 in every 6 jobs in LA County supports the creative sector and economy in Los Angeles County. If elected, how will you aim to ensure the continued vitality and growth of the creative economy and the artistic community that it supports?
By supporting legislation and bills which support the arts, and providing opportunities to our residents that help them appreciate the value of that support.
