DESCRIPTION
Los Angeles based fine art publisher is seeking a multi-skilled person who will act as Art Preparator, responsible for art handling, packing and shipping fine art prints and sculpture, as well as managing a large inventory of prints, on- and off-site. Must have experience handling fine art prints and/or works on paper. The successful applicant will demonstrate strong attention to detail, good organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task.
RESPONIBILITIES
- Shipping and packing of fine art
- Coordinate delivery with fine art shippers, including gathering quotes, shipper selection, and crating
- Framing, understanding frame specifications, managing framing orders
- Inspection of artwork for condition checks
- Identification and coordination of art conservation needs
- Ordering supplies for packing materials
- Record keeping and filing
- Gallery installations
- Help organize and maintain the warehouses – art storage and files
- Assist with storage and transportation of prints and sculpture at off-site warehouses, and conservators
- Some heavy lifting
- Help track inventory
- Help prepare and coordinate shipping for art fairs
- Driving company van for art movement to warehouses when needed
REQUIREMENTS
Required Experience and Skills:
- Three years minimum experience packing and shipping works on paper, with demonstrated expertise in paper handling
- Fine art paper knowledge, with experience in thoughtful and safe handling of artworks of various sizes, weights and properties
- Inspection of fine art prints / works on paper
- Meet deadlines while working independently and with a team on multiple concurrent projects
- Current California driver’s license
- Strong experience with Microsoft Office software
Desired Skills:
- Printmaking knowledge and experience
- Familiarity with conservation of works on paper / fine art prints
- Familiarity with Art Systems or other art management software
- Familiarity with Filemaker Pro
