SEEKING VISUAL ARTS, DANCE, MUSIC, THEATRE, AND CREATIVE WRITING MENTORS 

Theatre Of Hearts/Youth First (TOHYF) is seeking professional artists who have at least 3-5 years of experience in their chosen art disciplines to teach Youth First Artist-In-Residence workshops to youth in:

  • Visual Arts including Mural Making
  • Dance
  • Theater
  • Music
  • Creative Writing

Residencies are custom-designed and standards-based, and typically consist of 2-hour workshops conducted sequentially once or twice per week for 13-15 weeks, culminating in a Works-in-Progress presentation. Candidates, who are bilingual, have previous teaching experience, and/or knowledge of the VAPA and Common Core State Standards are a plus.

All artists must provide their own transportation, a valid CA driver’s license, and proof of a negative TB test. You will also be required to obtain and pass a background check at an agency designated by TOHYF.

ORGANIZATION INFORMATION:

The mission of the TOHYF Artist-In-Residence Program is to prevent and intervene in youth violence by involving underserved, low-income youth and their families in extended, high-quality, standards-based, multidisciplinary arts educational workshops. TOHYF works with at-risk youth ages 4 to 18 at schools, libraries, probation facilities, and community-based sites throughout Los Angeles County. Since 1992, our Youth First Artist-In-Residence Program has successfully provided over 102,500 youth with an environment that allows them the freedom of self-expression.
