Job Description

The Artist Residency Coordinator is a position reporting to the Artistic Director, supporting the artistic direction and management of 18th Street’s Artist Residency Programs. The ideal candidate has curatorial experience and is familiar with running a non-profit art gallery. Preferred candidates have professional experience working with contemporary artists in a working studio or exhibitions setting. The position entails coordinating and supporting residencies for 20-30 artists from multiple countries, over the course of a year, and supporting artists’ participation in exhibitions, public programs, and events.

The individual is responsible for attending and supporting in the production of 18th Street Arts Center’s events as needed. They will supervise interns and volunteers. They will work as part of a team of eight staff members who together support the annual cohort of residencies and related public events. 

Key Requirements:

  • Knowledgeable understanding of the Los Angeles contemporary art field. International art knowledge is a plus.

  • Bachelor degree in a relevant arts field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. MA preferred.

  • Two or more years of progressively responsible experience in residency or exhibition programs in contemporary art.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills

  • Editorial skills including copy editing and photo editing

  • Experience setting up audio/visual technology for presentations and events

  • Experienced direct to artist support

  • Available weekends and evenings as required
