The Music Center is one of the largest and most highly regarded performing arts centers in the country, encompassing four iconic theaters and 2 main outdoor spaces, including Grand Park, a 12-acre adjacent greenspace.   The Music Center is internationally recognized for its dance programming, Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center, while also presenting many popular free and low cost programs for diverse audiences.  In addition, The Music Center is home to four renowned resident companies – Center Theatre Group, the LA Master Chorale, the LA Opera and the LA Philharmonic.

The Music Center Arts is the new arts presenting and producing department within The Music Center, responsible for programming and presenting  Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center, Sleepless, DTLA, DJ Nights, Moves After Dark, The Holiday Show and other short term programs and festivals on campus and off.

The Music Center Arts Production Manager is a newly created position primarily responsible for the production management of Music Center Arts programming and events, including scheduling, production budgeting, overseeing load-ins, load-outs and performances, coordinating stagehands, designers, other production staff and vendors, and ensuring that presentations run smoothly, on time and on budget.

The position will report to and work closely with the Senior Producer to maintain effective and collaborative contact across the departments of Music Center Arts, as well as with the departments of Music Center Operations, including Building Services, Engineering, and Scheduling & Events.



  • Oversee the production and technical requirements for Music Center Arts presentations, productions and events, interfacing with the technical and production teams for visiting companies and artists; and coordinating production and design processes for projects produced by Music Center Arts.
  • Responsible for budgeting production costs, including, but not limited to, labor and equipment for Music Center Arts presentations, productions and events.
  • Responsible for developing and distributing production schedules for Music Center Arts presentations, productions and events.
  • Responsible for coordination of productions elements (sounds, lights, staging, and projections) and the coordination and management of IATSE Local 33 stagehands and other production staff to accomplish set-up, run and load out for Music Center Arts presentations, productions and events.  
  • Interface with and support Community Engagement, Dance/Presentations and other Music Center Arts departments to successfully realize their programming goals, maintaining budgets and schedules, and  ensure timely communication and appropriate production support.
  • Interface with Music Center Ops Production Department regarding coordinating of production and equipment needs, stagehand labor, scheduling for Music Center Arts programming; coordinating related activities with internal Music Center departments, i.e. Building Services, Security, Housekeeping, Scheduling and Events and Guest Services.
  • Responsible for additional duties and or projects as assigned.



  • Five years’ experience working in production for a performing arts complex or venue that produces its own work, co-commissions and presents in a multidisciplinary environment..  Experience with technical direction is a plus.
  • Extensive prior experience working and managing IATSE house and touring crew and other unions; including ability to read and interpret union CBA’s.
  • Excellent production budgeting and production planning skills specifically as they pertain to estimating labor, rental equipment, and vendor expenses.
  • Strong computer skills including working knowledge of CAD programs (VectorWorks, AutoCad) as well as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe software.
  • Current working knowledge of theatrical equipment and current industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Strong project management skills, attention to detail with the ability to anticipate, pre-empt and resolve potential problems, ability to work well under pressure; ability to successfully multi-task and prioritize competing responsibilities and deadlines among multiple projects and stakeholders with overlapping timeframes.
  • Must have a high emotional IQ, including good listening and diplomacy skills; must have excellent and effective communication skills, both written and verbal; must be able to work collaboratively and maintain effective professional relationships with colleagues; must understand the value of creative problem solving; and must be discrete.
  • Must be very knowledgeable and experienced in working directly with and supporting the work of artists.
  • Must be highly dependable and maintain punctuality.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, including occasional travel.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift and move equipment up to 10 lbs. when needed, including occasional weekend and evening and local travel.
