The candidate must have an MFA or equivalent terminal degree by the time of appointment (August 2017).

In addition to teaching courses in ceramics, the position also requires service at the university and department level: serving on department and university committees, participating in curriculum development, collaborating with art and art history faculty on various program activities and projects (including the annual student art show), and advising and mentoring students, thereby contributing to the overall academic excellence at CI.

Required Qualifications:

An MFA or equivalent terminal degree from an accredited institution in ceramics or sculpture.

The successful candidate should have experience working with undergraduate students, a record of professional achievement, and a commitment to the role of ceramics within an interdisciplinary and progressive art program. This individual will teach introductory, intermediate and advanced courses in ceramics and will be able to bridge traditional and digital media.

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will be interested in exploring the technical and artistic possibilities of ceramics. This includes being interested in the future applications of ceramics as a medium, how it interfaces with a diverse range of communities, how it will progress alongside digital and technological advancements, and how it might even intersect with commercial design and product development.

Candidates should have an understanding of the usage and maintenance of gas and electric kilns. CI is a green campus, so having an ecological/environmentally responsible approach to ceramics production is desirable.
