ABOUT

Valley Performing Arts Center (VPAC) includes two venues, a 500-seat auditorium, and the new 1700-seat state of the art proscenium theater/concert hall. VPAC presents about 50 performances per year of world-class artists of all genres and disciplines. Located in the nation's second largest market, Los Angeles, VPAC operates at the highest level of professional and artistic excellence.

DUTIES

Under general supervision, the Audience Service Workers-Usher provides audience service support on an "on-call" basis for events at the Plaza del Sol (PdS) and Valley Performing Arts Center (VPAC). The incumbent assists the House Manager in all ways while ensuring the highest level of customer safety and service during events; scans or tears tickets; stuffs and hands out programs; assists guests with finding their seats; offers directional or way-finding for guests from parking areas to theater venues and/or to various areas within the theater; sets out informational and/or directional signage, lobby tables, chairs, and/or benches; provides emergency exit instruction in the case of fire or earthquake, and disability assistance for guests throughout the theater; demonstrate adherence to dress code when working events; and performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Current Red Cross CPR, AED and/or First Aid certification is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of theatre etiquette, standards and protocol, performing arts center and university facilities, policies, and organization is a plus. Ability and specialized skills to: demonstrate excellent customer service and public relations skills; work with a wide variety of personalities in the execution of events; be outgoing and enjoy working with people; working with crowd control; exhibit exceptional dependability, flexibility, and patience in interactions with others; provide excellent verbal and written communication; lift 35 lbs; display a detail-oriented work attitude; multi-task; work independently and as part of a team to accomplish goals; work under pressure and adhere to deadlines; establish and maintain effective working relationships with guest artist, vendors, students, faculty, staff, clients, patrons, guests, peers and upper management. If ever involved with off-campus tabling events, proof of auto insurance, completion of form authorizing use of privately owned vehicles on state business, completion of CSUN Employer Pull Notice Program (EPN) form to authorize DMV record release, and completion of CSUN defensive driving online course may be required.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

The salary range for this classification is: $10.50 - $16.68 per hour.

The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $10.50- $12.00, dependent upon qualifications and experience.

HOURS: Intermittent, on-call; hours and schedule vary. Temporary-renewable, end date to be

determined.
