Audio Visual Stage Manager

The University of Southern California is seeking a full-time Audio Visual Stage Manager to join the technical production team in assisting and coordinating events in venues that fall under the purview of Trojan Event Services, including Bovard Auditorium and the Trojan Grand Ballroom. Reporting to the Technical Theater Manager (Technical Supervisor), the ideal candidate will have previous experience in managing stage operations and personnel on a scheduled timeline. Candidate must be willing to assume the role of stage management supervision as well as stepping into the Project Stage Manager role for events, as needed. Job Accountabilities:

  • Lead with technical team in the hiring, training, and management of student stage crew and stage managers
  • Develop training materials for event supervisors and crew
  • Coordinate multiple events simultaneously
  • Maintain the safety, integrity and operate any video and projection equipment in venues
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and maintains a calm demeanor in stressful and crisis situations
  • Ability to communicate tactfully with department leads, coworkers and staff to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions
  • Oversee the maintenance of stage equipment such as steeldeck, acoustical shell, and fly system
  • Ensure employee meal periods and rest breaks are taken in accordance with California State Law and University Policy
  • Submit shift reports, and maintain integrity of shift reporting procedures
  • Please note: Some nights and weekends will be required, based on the needs of the department.



  • Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Specialized/technical training


  • 2 years

Minimum Field of Expertise

  • Directly related experience with the design, installation and maintenance of audio-visual and multimedia hardware and software. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects successfully. Demonstrated interpersonal, critical thinking and communication skills.



  • Bachelor’s Degree is preferred


  • At least 3-5 years of professional event production experience (set up, operations, live production and stage managing) with team management experience is required
  • Assist in the development of a new video streaming initiative for the coming year
  • Ability to take initiative, solve problems both proactively and reactively
  • Should be comfortable stepping into various emergency situations
  • Strong written and verbal skills required, proficiency in multiple languages is a plus
  • Manage diverse personalities, while being flexible and tactful
  • Knowledge of traditional theatrical presentation and communication technologies (i.e. QLab and Crestron)
  • Knowledge of traditional audio and lighting control systems (i.e QSC Q-Sys and DMX Networking)
  • Proficiency within a variety of software packages including Microsoft Office Suite
