Balboa is a student and artist run Zine aiming to provide tangible sources of young artists to list on their resumes. Along side each publication artists both in the issue and outside of it will have the opportunity to have their work shown in our Gallery show accompanied by live music from local musicians.
The theme of our first issue is The Year of the Cowboy. How each artist defines and emulates the term "cowboy" in their work is completely up to them.
Submissions are open to all disciplines AND to residents living outside of Los Angeles/California.
Eligibility:
-Artists must be 18 years and over
-All work must original--if using elements of another individual's work artist must have the explicit consent of the artist/individual to use and publish in Balboa.
Criteria:
-All art must be sent with the preferred name of the artist, link to social media if available and a short artist biography.
-Written work must be submitted under the preferred pen name of the author with the style of the piece in the description. Writers we ask if you have art you'd like to accompany the written piece be sent with OR describe what you'd prefer to have along side your work.
-Video submissions are welcome for gallery submissions.
-Musicians and artists that are submitting for the gallery only, we ask for a sample of your work, a CV if possible, and a brief description of the work you're proposing if samples are not available.
Fees:
No fees for the initial submission, We request if your art is chosen and requires to be framed or printed at a larger size etc. to bring frames of your choice--If it's not possible please feel free to tell us and we'll give you an alternative!
Goodies/Awards:
Free copy of the zine to those are published, and tickets to those participating in the gallery!
