Forty-Fourth Annual National Juried Exhibition of Works on Paper

September 24, 2016 through October 28, 2016

The Brand Library Art Galleries in Glendale, California is announcing its 44th Annual Juried Exhibition of Works on Paper. Cash awards total over $4,000 with one Purchase Award.  All accepted artworks will be included in a printed exhibition catalog. Our juror is Laddie John Dill ( an internationally known contemporary artist working in a number of unusual materials including neon and argon tubing, natural earth materials, concrete, wax and other media. Mr. Dill is the recipient of two National Endowment of the Arts Grants: one for painting and one for sculpture. He was also granted a Guggenheim Fellowship. Mr. Dill has taught extensively at UCLA, UC Irvine, Art Center College of Design, and Otis College of Art and Design and has lectured throughout the United States.

Media: Any artwork on or of paper: collages, drawings, paintings, photography, prints, watercolors, 3-dimensional works, etc. Images: Minimum: 1, Maximum: 3. Entry Fee: $30.00 plus $15 each additional entry. Fee for one is $30, total for two is $45, total for three is $60. No more than three may be submitted.

All submissions must be made via CaFE (, a widely utilized on-line submission service that connects artists to exhibition opportunities. To submit artists must create a free CaFE profile and upload images and information about the work(s) they wish to submit to the Brand 44 Annual National Juried Exhibition call. Jul 31-Aug 12: Shipped Artwork must arrive at Brand Library between these dates

Sept 24: Exhibition Opening and Awards Ceremony
Oct 28: Exhibition Closes
Oct 29: Pick-up of Hand Delivered Artwork (9:00 am to 12:00 pm)

Participation is open to artists residing in the United States. Entries must be original artwork recently executed and not previously exhibited at the Brand Library Art Galleries. Source material, including photographs must be the artist’s own. Any artwork misrepresented by the images submitted may be rejected. Brand Library and Juror reserve the right to decline any artwork deemed unacceptable. Accepted entries may not be removed or substituted before the close of the exhibition. Artwork must be available between August 12 and November 18, 2016.


Before uploading images of artwork to their CaFE profile, artists should
review the media preparation instructions provided on the CaFE website: Frames and mats should not be visible in the submitted image(s).


PRESENTATION: Framed artwork should be glazed with plexiglass (NO glass) and professionally prepared for hanging and exhibition (e.g., neutral-colored mats, no saw-tooth hangers). Three-dimensional, and in some cases, unframed two-dimensional works are acceptable. If the matting or framing is deemed unacceptable by the juror or the gallery staff it will be the artist’s responsibility to correct the problem before the artwork will be exhibited.

SIZE OF ARTWORKS: There is no size restriction for hand-delivered artwork. Shipped items, including frame, may not exceed 48 inches in any direction.

DELIVERY AND RETURN: Accepted artworks must be hand-delivered or shipped to the Brand Library Art Galleries according to the schedule in this call. Shipped artworks will be returned within three weeks after the close of the exhibition in the same cartons in which they were received. A prepaid shipping label (UPS only) and a $25 handling fee are required for return shipment. Works not picked up on the designated date or not accompanied by a prepaid shipping label and handling fee become the property of the Brand Associates. At their discretion, the Brand Associates may choose to return forfeited works to artists; any artworks returned under these circumstances will incur a storage fee of $5 per day. Instructions for shipped artworks will be included with acceptance letters.

SALES: Unless specified “NFS,” all artworks will be offered for sale. If a price is not indicated on the entry form, the piece will be considered NFS. The Brand Associates take a 25% commission on sales. Payment to artists will be mailed within three weeks after the close of the exhibition. Prices provided on the entry form are final and may not be changed. 

CATALOG: There will be a catalog of the exhibition. Artists whose artworks are accepted will be entitled to a complimentary copy. Additional copies will be available for purchase.
