The Brentwood Art Center (BAC) is a beloved, bustling, nonprofit community-based art school that has provided fine arts instruction to children and adults of all ages and abilities since 1970. 

Position: BAC is hiring the following part-time teaching artists for our children’s art classes:

Children’s art instructor, mixed media (including drawing and painting), ages 7-9, Tuesday 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Children’s art instructor, drawing and painting, ages 9-12, Friday 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Hours: Approximately 2 teaching hours per week, a maximum of 12 students per class. 

Our ideal candidate is an experienced and inspiring children’s art teacher well versed in teaching the elements of art and the principles of design through creative projects using a range of different mediums. Candidates should be familiar with the California Visual and Performing Arts Content Standards and have experience creating age appropriate art lessons. Projects should be rooted in art history, art methods, techniques, or materials, or inspired by a specific artist. Here are the Brentwood Art Center we expect artistic excellence and pride ourselves on offering fine art lessons that are fun, creative and innovative and projects that build specific skills and develop artistic techniques. 

Qualifications: Applicants must have a thorough range of technical artistic skills as well as the ability to teach these skills to children ages 7-12 years old. Applicants should be dynamic, creative and smart with a positive, can-do attitude. Applicants must be able to provide an outstanding fine arts education experience in a nurturing environment and must be comfortable teaching different ages and abilities in each class. Candidates must have a BFA or MFA, a minimum of two years teaching experience, a strong foundation in art history, and a passion for teaching art to children.

Teachers will be responsible for designing their own curriculum. Lessons should focus on skill development while nurturing personal growth to help students develop their own ideas and individual style. It is essential that teachers can work collaboratively as part of a team, and have a positive attitude and the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and faculty.
