Call for Artists: Performance Program

Port of San Diego, Waterfront Arts & Activation

San Diego, CA

Port of San Diego, Waterfront Arts & Activation

The Port of San Diego’s Waterfront Arts & Activation department produces free community-focused events showcasing a variety of artistic performances around the San Diego Bay. These performances take the form of temporary pop-up artistic explorations as well as larger orchestrated free community events. Performances range from dance, theatre, and music, to new media, contemporary performance art, and interactive artworks. The current curatorial objective is to identify performance groups/artists to add to the Port’s 2019 - 2021 cultural programming.

This Call for Artists invites artists and organizations to submit their qualifications for providing cultural performances to take place along the waterfront throughout District tidelands. Application materials will include a statement of intent, budgets, examples of past work and a resume/CV.

Selected performance groups/artists will contract with the Port of San Diego on an as-needed basis. Performances will be programmed based on activation needs. An award of a contract is not a guarantee that performance services will be needed.

Project Goals:

  • Bring expressions and experiences of diverse cultures to the waterfront
  • Explore multisensory methods of making, through sound, sight, taste, and touch
  • Engage time, space, light and movement as a medium
  • Provide exceptional creative experiences free to the public along the waterfront throughout the five member cities of the Port

Budget: Budgets will range from $500 - $15,000 per project based on each individual performer/performance group, the scale of performance, and specific project needs.

Location: Sites will be determined through a collaborative process with each performance group/artists.

Application closes Monday May 27, 2019
