Avenue 50 Studio
Highland Park, CA
Avenue 50 Studio invites artists to submit work that addresses the struggle for reproductive freedoms and the right to choose for those of us who can become pregnant. Our reproductive rights have been under constant attack as policymakers and anti-choice organizations in a number of states work insidiously to pass new, restrictive abortion laws.
“Reproductive freedom is critical to a whole range of issues.... It should not be seen as a privilege or as a benefit, but a fundamental human right.” ― Faye Wattleton
This timely and urgent exhibition will address the landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in which the Court ruled that the constitutional right to privacy:
“is broad enough to encompass a woman’s decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy”
Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973)
The Supreme Court’s decision made abortion safer and more accessible at a time when 17 percent of all deaths due to pregnancy and childbirth were the result of illegal abortion.
