Embracing Our Differences® is an outdoor juried art exhibit celebrating diversity. A critical part of the impact of the exhibit is the selected quotations from the general public that accompany each piece of artwork. The quotations give individuals in the larger community a chance to have their voices represented by expressing their thoughts, feelings and ideas.
The combination of art and the written word adds a deeper dimension to the overall experience. Since 2004, the exhibit has been viewed by over two million visitors.
Entries can be no longer than 20 words. A $1,000 cash award will be presented to the best original quotation submitted. Below are some ideas to help stimulate thinking about the subject of embracing our differences:
• What does embracing our differences mean to you?
• What does diversity mean to you?
• Have you ever been bullied? What did it feel like?
• Have you ever witnessed someone else being bullied? What did it feel like?
• What are you looking for in a best friend?
• What would a perfect world look like to you?
• If you could change the world, what would you do to make it better?
Art is a powerful tool to evoke social change. Without uttering a single word, artists can enlighten, educate and effect change around the world. Embracing Our Differences invites all artists to be a part of this change through your submissions to its 14th annual outdoor juried art exhibit celebrating diversity and inclusion. Artists, photographers, professionals, amateurs, teachers, students – everyone can participate. 42 artists will be selected and national and international submissions are encouraged.The exhibit will be displayed April and May 2017 in Sarasota, FL USA. Since 2004, the exhibits have been viewed by more than 2,200,000 visitors.
Submissions must be submitted online or postmarked no later than January 10, 2017.
