Arts for LA, in partnership with Arts for All and the California Alliance for Arts Education, recently crafted and distributed an arts education template for the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) process. School districts throughout Los Angeles County are in the midst of crafting their LCAPs (see story above).

Districts are in the thick of finalizing their Local Control and Accountability Plans (LCAPs), which must be completed by June 30. This is a key moment to get involved in that process and advocate that every student in your district has access to a complete education that includes the arts.

Here are three easy ways you can support arts education now:

California is perched on the edge of an unprecedented transformation of our education system. Over the next year, every school will receive more funding to support student success, but schools will need to hear from you about how to best use this money.

California Alliance for Arts Education recently authored A Policy Pathway: Embracing Arts Education to Achieve Title I Goals.  Title I schools are those in which a majority of students live in low socioeconomic circumstances; Title I funds, provided by the federal government, are designed to supplement and enhance learning and parental involvement in these school sites

Governor’s Budget Favors Local Autonomy and Eliminates Most Categorical Funding

Around this time of year, when the airwaves are filled with ads for ballot measures, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and a little cynical. And yet there are local elections underway, like those for school board that will have an important impact on our kids, schools and community.

Arts education supporters who want to help survey school board candidates this fall can log into a free training webinar hosted by California Alliance for Arts Education on September 6.

Arts for LA will share its annual school district candidate survey results with the California Alliance for Arts Education as part of that organization's statewide movement to get candidates to provide clarity on their arts education philosophies, priorities, and perspectives.
