ArtsDay 2014 is just over a week away!  We are so excited to welcome everyone back to City Hall for our annual celebration of arts and culture in Los Angeles. 

Culver City is home to a vibrant and diverse arts and culture community dedicated to enriching the lives of all Culver City residents.  The City previously supported its arts and culture sector through the work of a dedicated Department of Cultural Affairs.  However, this department was dismantled in May 2012 when funding from the Community Redevelopment Agency was lost.

Councilmember José Huizar, the leading force on the City Council in adopting the recent mural ordinance, announced he has commissioned nine artists to paint murals on utility boxes on East First Street in Boyle Heights.  

The Los Angeles City Council voted Friday to declare Saturday, October 12, 2013, “Mural Day” in the City of Los Angeles in recognition of  the new mural ordinance going into effect after an eleven year moratorium on murals on private property.

Update 8/22: The City Council has again tentatively rescheduled the discussion and vote of the mural ordinance for Wednesday, August 28. Check the agenda on the City Council calendar for more information.

On July 30, the Planning & Land Use Management Committee of the LA City Council reviewed two versions of the proposed mural ordinance. Version A allows for murals to appear on single-family private residences, while Version B does not. After reviewing the variations, the committee listened to public comment on the issues. While perhaps not surprising, public comment was mixed, with neighborhood c

Arts advocates in LA’s District 6 are encouraged to vote on July 23 in the run-off race between former LAUSD Board Member Nury Martinez and former State Assemblymember Cindy Montañez.  

District 6 includes the neighborhoods of Lake Balboa and Panorama City and portions of Sun Valley, Arleta, North Hills East, and Van Nuys in the San Fernando Valley.
