Several high-stakes elections lay ahead for residents of Los Angeles County.

Arts for LA surveyed 177 candidates in 31 school board elections this fall as part of our semiannual Arts & Culture Candidate Survey program.

Arts advocates in LA’s District 6 are encouraged to vote on July 23 in the run-off race between former LAUSD Board Member Nury Martinez and former State Assemblymember Cindy Montañez.  

District 6 includes the neighborhoods of Lake Balboa and Panorama City and portions of Sun Valley, Arleta, North Hills East, and Van Nuys in the San Fernando Valley.

The good news is voter turnout increased over March's Primary Election in Los Angeles, but the real news is voter turnout didn't rise much above the historic low in the nation's second largest city.

With 9,869 votes cast last week in the Burbank City Council election, candidate Bob Frutos captured a solid majority with 5,262 votes and has been elected to a seat on the council.

Residents of the City of Los Angeles voted yesterday, closing seven races where a single candidate received a majority of the vote, while seven other races will move the two top candidate to the May 21 General Municipal Election.
