LA City Council Approves Plan for Mural Program Support

Murals of Arts District by Sergey Sus, on FlickrThe Los Angeles City Council approved a plan to fund mural preservation, creation, and restoration throughout the city this morning.  All Councilmembers present voted to approve the funding, which will be coordinated through the Department of Cultural Affairs.

The Los Angeles City Council voted Friday to declare Saturday, October 12, 2013, “Mural Day” in the City of Los Angeles in recognition of  the new mural ordinance going into effect after an eleven year moratorium on murals on private property.

The Los Angeles City Council moved one step closer to passing an official resolution in support of AB 580, the California Assembly bill that would fund the California Arts Council with $75 million dollars for the next fiscal year.
