The City of Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation Department is looking to contract a part time Adult Ceramic Wheelthrowing and Handbuilding Instructor for the Manhattan Beach Ceramics Studio at Live Oak Park
Hours
- 3 – 10 hours per week, depending on class enrollment and interest
- Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays as class schedule requires
Salary
Percentage of students’ enrollment fees – per contract
Qualifications/Requirement
- BFA in Ceramics, Sculpture or a related field required, MFA preferred
- Must have thorough understanding of ^10 ceramics, clays, glazes and firing techniques
- Must have mastery of and ability to teach wheelthrowing and handbuilding
- Minimum 2 years teaching experience, 5 years preferred
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to sit, stand and/or walk for prolonged periods of time and lift objects up to 75lb
- Interview will include a practical portion
Description
The City of Manhattan Beach Parks & Recreation Department Cultural Arts Division is looking for a part time Adult Ceramic Handbuilding and Wheelthrowing Instructor
This contracted position is responsible for research, preparation for and instruction of recreational ceramics classes targeting adults
Instructor will research, develop and propose classes to be included in the curriculum of the Live Oak Park Ceramics Studio, to be approved by the Ceramics Supervisor or Ceramics Coordinator
Instructor must be comfortable working in a ^10 studio and able to trouble shoot potential problems accordingly
Instructor must be comfortable working with a diverse student body including varied age groups and skill levels
Duties
The right candidate must be able to perform the following tasks:
Develop a structure and curriculum for adult classes
Instruct students of different skill levels, ages and abilities working in the same class
Trouble shoot problematic projects as well as discuss with and inform students, staff and lab techs of potential problems and solutions
Maintain inventory levels of clay and materials as used by students and for classroom demonstrations
Interact and clearly communicate with other staff, instructors, students and management; including via email, text and phone
