Southern California Institute of Architecture
Los Angeles, CA
Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) is a world-renowned center of innovation and one
of the nation’s few independent architecture schools, offering undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate programs. SCI-
Arc is dedicated to educating architects and designers who will imagine and shape the future.
The school is distinguished by the vibrant atmosphere of its studios, which provide students with a uniquely inspiring
environment in which to study architecture and design. Approximately 500 students and 80 faculty members (mostly
practicing architects) work together in a fluid, nonhierarchical manner to rethink assumptions, create, explore, and test the
limits of architecture. For more information about how SCI-Arc teaches architects to engage, speculate, and innovate,
please visit sciarc.edu.
The Chief Advancement Officer will lead the implementation and growth of fundraising activities at
SCI-Arc as well as alumni affairs and select public relations activities. In partnership with the institution’s senior
leadership, the CAO will formulate, execute, and manage a strategic advancement blueprint that will enable SCI-Arc to
create a robust culture of philanthropy and generate substantial increased revenue from philanthropic sources.
The CAO reports to the Director/CEO, Hernan Diaz Alonso, works in partnership with SCI-Arc’s Executive Team and
Board of Trustees, and leads a current team of six.
This is a truly unique opportunity for an imaginative advancement leader to join an institution that is not constrained by
bureaucracy, pushes creative thought boundaries, and aggressively expands and raises its ambitions. The CAO will bring
genuine passion for architecture and design and for the institution’s uninhibited mission, coupled with deep experience
driving fundraising growth and success.
SCI-Arc has a current annual operating budget of $28 million (of which $800,000 is generated through
