City: South Gate
Position Seeking: City Council
Question 1: Please share a meaningful experience you had with art (visual, dance, drama, music, media arts) while growing up and its impact on you.
I grew up with a great appreciation for musicals and various genres of music.
As a young teenager I was active in the Drama Club in both middle school and high school. It helped not only my confidence levels but prepared me for the woman I have become. Now that I am a mother I instill this appreciation of art, expression, song and dance into my daughter as well. At 3 years old she sings, colors, and tries to draw as to express herself the best she can at such a young age.
In our communities we need to encourage and motivate our youth in any and every program available to them.
Question 2: What do you believe the role of City Council should be in developing and supporting the region’s arts and cultural infrastructure?
I believe Council needs to take input from the majority of their respective communities before voting on infrastructure or future projects.
Question 3: What’s your vision for the city? What role, if any, does art and culture play in advancing that vision?
If City Council can obtain grants and donations I would like to see free after school programs in these areas for our youth.
Questions 4: A recent report by the Otis College of Design found that 1 in every 6 jobs in LA County supports the creative sector and economy in Los Angeles County. If elected, how will you aim to ensure the continued vitality and growth of the creative economy and the artistic community that it supports?
Art is in various aspects of business and our community. From color pallets, graphic designs, to photography. I am planning to implement mentoring programs as well as internship opportunities within a marketing department for the City of South Gate. This would give our youth a chance to participate, experience, and possible future job opportunities.
