The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art
This is a 6-month limited-term, part-time, hourly position that is not benefits eligible.
While under construction in Exposition Park, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is participating in community engagement events to introduce the museum, its collection focus, and staff to people of all ages in greater Los Angeles. The Community Engagement and Arts Assistant will support these events, assisting museum staff with sharing information about the museum and guiding people of all ages and a range of abilities in art-making. We seek someone with strong communication skills who is enthusiastic about connecting with people from a wide range of backgrounds. In order to best serve constituencies at these events, it is essential that the Assistant is fluent in both English and Spanish. Additional language skills are welcome.

Pursuant to the Lucas Museum of Narrative Arts COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination Policy, the museum requires all new hires to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment absent an approved medical and/or religious exemption. Upon hire, all new hires will receive detailed instructions on complying with this policy. Federal, state, or local public health directives may impose additional requirements.
Primary Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Attend 2-hour in-person training sessions in advance of events;
Assist with materials preparation and set up;
Assist Lucas Museum staff at the booth: greeting and checking-in guests, art and marketing materials distribution, registration and email listserv signup, and other tasks as needed;
Help people access and use art materials, providing different levels of guidance to people of all ages through a simple artmaking activity that inspires them to create art based on narratives from their lives and art from the museums collection;
Maintain cleanliness and order in the activity areas;
Talk with visitors and guests about the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, sharing information, and creating a welcoming environment where people can share their own stories;
Assist in clean up and break down after the event.
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent;
1-2 years minimum of experience in a professional workplace setting;
Minimum age 18 years old;
Proof of authorization to work in the U.S.;
Excellent verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish (Required);
General comfort and interest in using art materials, though deep knowledge is not required;
Interest in and enthusiasm for narrative visual storytelling in a range of forms, including art, film, and comics;
Comfortable interacting with the public of all ages and different backgrounds;
Ability to work a 4-6 hour shift outdoors or indoors; some of this shift may be standing for long periods of time if the assistant is able (accommodations will be provided if not);
Must be able to provide personal transportation to and from site;
Able to travel to various locations in Los Angeles County, with a special emphasis in South Los Angeles and Exposition Park.
