Consulting Creative Technologist

Los Angeles, CA

Automata is an artist-run non-profit organization located in the Chinatown District of Los Angeles. We are dedicated to the creation, incubation, and presentation of contemporary art centered on ideas of artifice and performing objects, including experimental puppetry, projection, time-based installation, experimental film, music, and text. Automata stands at the fulcrum points between objects and performance, artifacts and ephemera, magic and mechanics, artifice and interface.
We are currently seeking a resourceful and creative Los Angeles-based IT consultant to oversee the design and implementation of new systems for virtual live presentation, programming, archiving, and interactive distance learning opportunities. This position is funded through a modest relief grant, and our goal is to build necessary infrastructure and digital strategies now and into the future.
This is a short-term contract position. Working part-time over the summer months, the Consultant will work in dialogue with the Co-Directors and Managing Director to advise and offer hands-on IT support to accomplish the following:

    • Overseeing installation and setup of new systems;
  • Advise strategic use of available broadcast and streaming platforms;
  • Maximize Automata’s social media, website, and e-communications in support of our virtual initiatives;
  • Assessment and hands-on refinement of Automata’s web site in support of project goals;
  • Collaborate with summer 2020 residency artists to create meaningful, creative, and artist-centered virtual programs.
