The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) is seeking an experienced arts manager to join Metro’s vibrant Art and Design program. Metro Art enhances the customer experience with innovative visual and performing arts programming that encourages ridership and connects people, sites and neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles County. A diverse range of site-specific artworks are integrated into the growing Metro system, improving the quality of transit environments, creating a sense of place and strengthening ties with the communities we serve. Our multi-faceted program ranges from photography installations to onboard posters, mosaics and sculptures, workshops, art tours and live performances, as well as the monitoring, care and conservation of our expansive collection of public art and portable artworks.
The Metro Art and Design team delivers highly visible projects in a fast paced environment within one of the largest and most effective and efficiently operated mass transit systems in the entire nation. As a fast-expanding multi-modal network, it is an exciting and rewarding time to join Metro. Applicants must have a BA and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience, including two years of supervisory experience in developing and implementing complex, highly visible public art projects. Experience working with artists, architects, engineers, contractors, and highly specialized fabricators on large scale projects in the public context, is strongly desired, as are community engagement, strong communication and project management skills. Preferred candidates must have a sophisticated knowledge of contemporary visual art and be able to interpret architectural drawings and specifications.
