inside and outside the classroom. Gabriella Charter Schools is composed of two high-performing,
dance-themed charter schools in the Los Angeles community. GCS 1 serves grades K-8 and is located in
the community of Echo Park. GCS 2 opened as a K-2 school in 2017, growing a grade level each year, and

Summary

The Dance Instructional Aide is a passionate arts educator who supports dance
teachers in empowering each student to grow and meet their full potential. Reporting to the
Lead Dance Teacher, the Dance IA will provide individual and small group instruction in dance
classes, supporting artistic excellence and positive student culture in the studios. The Dance IA
will work with dance teachers to monitor student progress, engage students who need
additional dance practice, and create a safe and nurturing environment both in the studios and
transitioning out of the studios. This position is a professional growth opportunity ideal for
candidates currently in a credentialing program or who are considering teaching dance as a
career.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support dance instruction, activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the
    dance teacher to provide student access to instructional activities
  • Confer with dance teachers on a regular basis to assist in promoting student success in the dance
    studios
  • Support dance teachers in delivering effective instruction
  • Supervise students in dance studios and during transitions to dance
  • Support dance classroom systems and procedures and help manage student behavior to ensure
    all students are fully engaged
  • Appropriately manage student behavior whole class, individually, and in small groups; enforce
    and model school-wide behavioral expectations
  • Support students with learning differences and construct opportunities that nurture all students’
    growth
  • Participate in meetings as requested
  • Maintain confidentiality of students and families as mandated by district, state, and federal
    regulations
  • Participate in school trainings, in-services, and meetings and implement instructional and
    behavioral strategies with fidelity
  • Establish and maintain cooperative, positive working relationships with students, staff, and
    parents
  • Model and support a community of care both inside and outside of the classroom for all GCS
    stakeholders, including students, families, and staff
  • Support student growth through emphasizing an asset-based and collaborative approach to
    character development

Miscellaneous

  • Communicate with the Lead Dance Teacher, Director of Dance Education and other school staff
    regularly and in a timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned by the Lead Dance Teacher, Director of Dance Education, Principal
    and/or school leaders that relate to instructional excellence at Gabriella Charter Schools

  • Ability to stay positive through challenges
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing conditions; take initiative to support activities in the
    dance studios
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of 48 college semester units required; Associate of Arts or Bachelor’s degree highly
    preferred
  • Passage of CBEST preferred
  • Two years of experience working with students from historically underserved areas in an
    educational setting
  • Experience working in an educational setting implementing behavioral intervention for students
    with complex and/or severe behavioral problems
  • Knowledge of positive behavioral interventions preferred
