Arts for LA is a voice for the arts in Greater Los Angeles that informs, engages, and mobilizes individuals and organizations to advocate for access to the arts across all communities; arts education for every student; robust investment in the arts; and inclusion of diverse and underrepresented voices. Arts for LA invests in leadership development, growing networks of civically engaged advocates; building deep relationships with elected officials; and working in partnership across sectors to make LA a vibrant, prosperous, creative, and healthy society.


Arts for LA seeks a full-time Development and Communications Associate to assist with: execution of the advancement strategies, board liaison, internal and external communications, and as general administrative support to the organization. The Development and Communications Associate will work closely with the executive director and program staff.

Reports to: Executive Director



Development / Board Management – 35%

  • participates as a lead member of the development team, under the direction of the Executive Director and supporting with all fundraising initiatives
  • schedule board and committee meetings
  • prepare printed materials for board and committee meetings
  • draft board and committee meeting minutes and secure approval for official records
  • maintain consistent contact with board members through phone and email
  • liaise with current and potential Arts for LA individual and organizational members
  • manage monthly individual and organizational Arts for LA memberships (mail renewal notices, process incoming dues, update membership lists and databases, etc.)

Communications – 35%

  • draft monthly newsletter highlighting current Arts for LA news and activities
  • maintain all social media platforms – Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • draft and edit press releases and op-eds
  • generate analytics reports on social media impact around targeted campaigns
  • manage graphic designer to develop printed and digital marketing materials
  • coordinate logistics and take minutes for Communications Advisory Committee

General Administrative Duties – 30%

  • coordinate office schedules and prepare staff meeting agendas and notes
  • answer main office phone line, relaying calls and taking messages
  • monitor the email, responding to general inquiries
  • maintain the Job Listings & Artist Opportunities boards on the Arts for LA website
  • update imagery and content on Arts for LA website using Nationbuilder
  • organize files and records in Dropbox
  • coordinate Office Depot orders to maintain office supplies
  • reserve venues for Arts for LA programs and events
  • manage merchandise inventory and secure rentals and catering for events
  • supervise volunteers at events


  • proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and Google Suite
  • ability to speak on the phone in a professional manner
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • ability to learn new skills and programs quickly
  • ability to manage and prioritize concurrent projects
  • ability to move quickly and problem solve in a dynamic environment during events
  • ability to stand for 4+ hours (during events) and lift/ carry 25 pounds (event set up/ strike)
  • friendly, professional demeanor


  • proficiency in Nationbuilder and Kintone
  • proficiency in Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator or other graphic design platform
  • experience with non profit board management
  • awareness of Los Angeles arts community and local government structures
  • experience with social media outreach
  • bilingual applicants encouraged to apply
