Position Seeking: Mayor
Question 1: Please share a meaningful experience you had with art (visual, dance, drama, music, media arts) while growing up and its impact on you.
As a young, I always loved to listen to pop stars. I remember dancing at a very early age. I never took professional lessons, but always had excellent rhythm. Now that I am an adult, I am taking professional hip hop lessons. You can google: Pinky Uptown Funk. In addition: Vimeo 65 year old Pinky presents Workin Day and Night. While I was a senior citizen, I became a rapper. I was fortunate to rap with Queen Latifah twice on her show at Sony Studios. Her rap name for me was Pinky. She wore hot pink and I did also. I received a standing ovation. I have a rap song out for the issues facing Los Angeles. You tube: Vote for Pinky I feel it is important to get our young interested in politics again. Question 2: What do you believe the role of City Council should be in developing and supporting the region’s arts and cultural infrastructure?
As Mayor of Los Angeles, I feel that City Council will be instrumental in improving the arts. I will have meetings with the council to see how we can improve the arts. we must preserve our cultural infrastructure. History of Los Angeles is very important and should be passed on to our children. The arts have always been an important part of Los Angeles history. The City Council should be involved in all the arts.
Question 3: What’s your vision for the city? What role, if any, does art and culture play in advancing that vision?
We need to look at our infrastructure. There are pipes that are 90 years old that are breaking every other day. Our roads have pot holes that you can bury a car. Our education system (LAUSD) has to improve. Being a retired LAUSD teaher 32 years, we have to put our youth first. We must have safe schools,. As mayor, I am going to be involved in our educational system. Racial justice is extremely vital. I just came home from the NAACP Installation of New Officers. I noticed, I was the only white person in the audience. We must integrate with other cultures. These are a few things. I am going to get rid of pay for play politicians, look at our budget carefully there is a lot of waste. Possibly sell real estate Los Angeles owns to help with the problems we are facing.
Questions 4: A recent report by the Otis College of Design found that 1 in every 6 jobs in LA County supports the creative sector and economy in Los Angeles County. If elected, how will you aim to ensure the continued vitality and growth of the creative economy and the artistic community that it supports?
As an actor, the arts are a vital component in Los Angeles. I will see to it that they continue. I want to see more classes in our secondary school system and colleges. I would like to give opportunities for at least 2 years of free college, so students can take part in a cultural arts major. These are a few ways to see to it that the arts will continue.
