Pasadena Playhouse seeks a strategic, effective and self-motivated finance professional to serve as its Director of Finance and Administration. Pasadena Playhouse is a place where people have gathered for 100 years to experience bold and important theater. It is one of the most prolific theaters in American history with a legacy of profound theatrical impact and courageous new work. As the state theater of California, Pasadena Playhouse’s mission is to enrich people’s lives through theater, community programs and learning. The year 2017 marks 100 years of Pasadena Playhouse and it is also the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Playhouse College of Theatre Arts, and the 80th year of the Playhouse’s designation as the official State Theater of California. These three significant anniversaries point to the importance of the Pasadena Playhouse in the chronicles of American theater, with very few, if any, professional theaters in this country able to claim similar distinctions of history, impact and longevity. Reporting to the Producing Artistic Director, the Director of Finance and Administration will provide executive-level leadership and strategic direction for the financial and administrative affairs for Pasadena Playhouse and will be a member of the senior leadership team. The Director of Finance and Administration will oversee accounting, budgeting, finance, risk management, internal controls, human resources, information technology, and key aspects of facilities and office management. He/She will oversee a small team (finance and facilities) as well as outside accounting, HR and IT consultants. The Director of Finance and Administration will work closely with the Producing Artistic Director and the Board of Directors in developing and implementing both near-term and longer term financial plans and budgets.


Preferred candidates will have a minimum of five years in increasingly responsible management positions in the field of finance. Experience as a CFO or senior financial manager in a nonprofit organization and experience working with a Board of Directors is desirable although candidates with equivalent experience in other settings are encouraged to apply. Passion for theater is imperative.
